Worldcoin has just launched an identity verification service for residents of Singapore after suspending operations in India. The decision to expand this service to Singapore was announced through a blog post by Worldcoin on December 27th.
Worldcoin stated that their project is steadily progressing in several countries, and this is the next step after they ceased operations in India. The Worldcoin website shows that they now have 11 identity verification locations globally, including the United States.
Worldcoin’s identity verification project began in 2021 and had attracted over two million pre-registrations before its official launch in July 2023. At present, over one million individuals have created accounts using their identities, which roughly equates to around 0.06% of the global population.
Notably, Sam Altman, the founder of Worldcoin and also the CEO of OpenAI, was previously ousted from his CEO position at OpenAI but was later reinstated after a brief period due to employee protests at the artificial intelligence research company.
Worldcoin’s expansion into Singapore and other countries with identity verification for users showcases the project’s progress and their determination to build a global cryptocurrency and blockchain technology system.
