On June 2, Kakarot zkEVM successfully completed a pre-seed fundraising round, with significant backing from key individuals and organizations in the tech industry, including the founder of Ethereum – Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ledger, vice president of innovation – Nicolas Bacca, and StarkWare.
Kakarot zkEVM is an Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) written in the Cairo programming language, with the goal of allowing development teams to create and deploy EVM-compatible applications.
Developers can now build applications for Kakarot similar to implementations on Ethereum or Polygon using Solidity or any other EVM-compatible language. Users can then interact with these decentralized applications (dApps) through Metamask or WalletConnect.
In addition, Kakarot uses STARK proofs to increase the security and transparency of transactions, at a competitive cost.
According to the project’s roadmap, Kakarot will operate as a Layer2 on StarkNet. During this phase, the project focuses on bringing Kakarot zkEVM to StarkNet and expanding its ecosystem. In the next phase, Kakarot will integrate with Madara to enable zkEVM Layer3, with the goal of reducing transaction fees and increasing scalability through rollup.
Vitalik Buterin has hailed “ZK-Rollup” as an important solution and thinks it will soon surpass Optimistic Rollups in the race to scale on Ethereum, although its development may take longer. . Currently, both are well known Layer2 solutions in the industry.
“My opinion is that in the long run, ZK-Rollups will eventually beat Optimistic Rollups because they have basic advantages like users don’t need to wait 7 days for a withdrawal. In more than 10 years from now or even beyond, I expect Rollups to essentially become ZK.”

ZK-Rollup’s only weakness is the difficulty of running decentralized applications (dApps) on the platform, especially popular DeFi protocols.
Aware of this bottleneck, many leading projects in the blockchain field such as Polygon, ConsenSys, Scroll, Taiko and many others are aware of this problem and are working hard to make ZK-Rollup compatible with ZK-Rollup. EVM
