On September 12th, Sony made an announcement that they’re entering the world of blockchain by establishing a joint venture named Sony Network Communications Labs Pte. Ltd, in collaboration with Startale Labs. Their aim is to develop a new blockchain infrastructure called “Sony Chain,” with the goal of becoming a core component of Web3.
This collaboration leverages Sony’s expertise in areas like communication, IoT, artificial intelligence, and solution services, along with Startale Labs’ technical capabilities and understanding of Web3. Jun Watanabe, Chairman and Representative Director of Sony Network Communications, expressed that this partnership is a driving force for global innovation.
Sota Watanabe, the CEO of Startale Labs, shares this perspective, describing the cooperation as a significant milestone in the company’s history. He believes this project could be a game-changer for Web3.
This project represents Sony’s latest venture into blockchain technology, solidifying their presence in the Web3 world. It also underscores the potential that major tech conglomerates see in Web3.
Notably, Startale is a Singaporean company specializing in Web3 infrastructure and the development of innovative products for Web3 applications. Initially, Startale was part of Astar Network but later became a separate company.
Last month, Startale Labs received a $3.5 million investment from Sony. The financial support from Sony will help the company expand its workforce from 15 to 30 employees, enhance its contributions to Astar Network and Polkadot, and initiate new Ethereum projects.
