On September 18th, Optimism, a Layer-2 platform for cryptocurrencies, officially announced that they would carry out the third OP token airdrop in the history of the OP Mainnet since its deployment in June 2022.
According to the announcement, the project will allocate a total of 19.4 million OP tokens to over 31,870 wallet addresses that have been involved in governance and voting delegation from January 20th to July 20th, 2023. Notably, those who delegated their tokens to active participants in Optimism’s governance activities will receive double rewards.
Starting from September 19th, Optimism will begin distributing tokens directly to user wallets. Users don’t need to perform any claiming actions and should remain vigilant against false confirmation information to avoid scams.
Prior to this, Optimism had sent the remaining 48 million OP tokens from the first airdrop pool to eligible addresses that had not yet claimed them. The project explained that retaining a portion of the airdrop tokens would allow them to focus on developing new features and planning for upcoming airdrop rounds.
Since its launch, the project has conducted three airdrop rounds:
- Round 1 (June 2022): Airdrop of 214 million OP tokens, accounting for 5% of the total supply.
- Round 2 (February 2023): Airdrop of 11.7 million OP tokens, accounting for 0.27% of the total supply.
- Round 3 (September 2023): Airdrop of 19.4 million OP tokens, accounting for 0.45% of the total supply.
According to the tokenomics, Optimism plans to airdrop a total of 19% of the total OP supply to the user community, with approximately 13.28% of the total supply of 4.29 billion OP tokens to be distributed in upcoming airdrop rounds.
