On October 5th, the digital currency XRP held the fifth-largest position by market capitalization. Its value has recently surged after a judge dismissed the temporary restraining order from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Data from xrpscan.com shows that there’s a limit of 100 billion XRP distributed across 4,801,934 active accounts. Among these, 99,988,373,201 XRP is accessible, with 41,106,205,320 XRP locked in escrows. The XRP ledger facilitates various types of escrows, especially time-based escrows that ensure funds are unlocked after a specific time period. Essentially, this XRP remains in the accounts, waiting to be released under specific predetermined conditions.
The top 10 wallets hold 11.04% of XRP’s total supply, with the top two wallets dominated by Ripple. The leading wallet, labeled as “rMQ98” and associated with Ripple (29), holds an impressive 1.96 billion XRP, accounting for 1.96% of XRP’s total supply. Ripple (39), known by the account number “rKveE,” holds an impressive 1.54 billion XRP, representing 1.541% of the total digital asset holdings. Binance, one of the world’s top cryptocurrency exchanges by trading volume, owns the third-ranked XRP wallet “rEy8T,” containing 1.47 billion XRP worth 787 million USD.
The fourth-ranking wallet “rBEc9” is managed by Uphold, holding 1.37 billion XRP. Binance retains the fifth position with the wallet “rs8ZP,” containing 914 million XRP. Upbit’s wallet “rDxJN,” holding 910 million XRP, occupies the sixth position. Uphold returns to the list with the seventh-largest wallet “rsX8c,” housing over 821 million XRP. Kraken’s wallet “rUeDD,” securing 740 million XRP, takes the eighth spot. The ninth position goes to Bitbank’s wallet “rw7m3” with 658 million XRP.
The owner of the tenth-ranked wallet remains a mystery. It’s known as the “rEvwS” address, holding 653,476,430 XRP, valued at 348.27 million USD based on the current XRP exchange rate.
The top 20 XRP wallets hold 16.26% of the total supply, while the top 50 hold 26.69% of the circulating XRP. The top 100 owners account for 33.15%, and 277,000,000 XRP are allocated to leveraged XRP on the BNB network.
It’s worth noting that the co-founders and executives of Ripple Labs, Chris Larsen and Brad Garlinghouse, hold a significant amount of XRP. The exact amount is still undisclosed. However, co-founder Jed McCaleb sold the remaining portion of his XRP holdings in 2022. Over the years, McCaleb had transferred a total of 9 billion XRP from his wallet named “Taco Stand.”
