Blockchain detectives have recently focused on a transaction from a wallet associated with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, where he transferred $14.9 million worth of USD Coin (USDC) to the cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.
According to an October 17 post from blockchain analytics firm PeckShield on Twitter, Buterin’s “Vitalik.eth” wallet transferred $14.93 million to Gemini on October 16.
Vitalik initially received the $14.93 million USDC from Kanro, a charity organization linked to Vitalik, on October 14.
Separate analysis from cryptocurrency data provider Lookonchain showed that Buterin had also transferred nearly $500,000 to Coinbase three days prior.
The price of Ethereum’s native currency, Ether (ETH), remained stable following the news of the transfer, even increasing by more than 2% in the past 24 hours, according to price data from Coingecko.
Buterin’s transaction is the latest in a series of ETH deposits to centralized exchanges over the past few months, with the total amount transferred from Buterin’s wallet now exceeding $3.9 million in September.
On September 24, Buterin transferred 400 ETH, worth $600,000 at the time, to Coinbase. Earlier, Cafebitcoin reported a transaction worth 600 ETH ($1 million) from the address Vitalik.eth on August 21, a transaction also confirmed by on-chain monitoring platforms.
