On July 11th, blockchain development company ConsenSys announced the launch of the alpha mainnet version of its Layer 2 solution, Linea.
This move comes after a three-month-long testnet phase of Linea on Goerli, with over 5.5 million wallet addresses involved and 46 million transactions recorded, making it one of the most active projects on Ethereum’s Goerli test network.
With the mainnet release, Linea will enhance the user experience and introduce an ecosystem with over 100 protocols, partners, and decentralized applications.
The alpha mainnet release also brings significant upgrades, including the use of new infrastructure, dynamic fee mechanism, and integration of batch transactions, resulting in Linea reducing transaction costs by more than 15 times compared to Ethereum.
In addition to the launch of Linea Mainnet Alpha, ConsenSys has also unveiled the Linea Ecosystem Investment Alliance (EIA) – an initiative supported by over 30 leading venture capital firms aimed at supporting builders by providing funding and resources.
ConsenSys’ MetaMask wallet will also add support for Linea. Users will be able to access Linea through the MetaMask Portfolio and utilize MetaMask’s bridge, swap, and buy features in the coming weeks.
Consensys is one of the most notable Ethereum development companies. In addition to the Linea network and MetaMask wallet, the company also provides services such as Infura gateway, Quorum enterprise Ethereum chain, and various other services.
