Meta’s new decentralized social networking app, called “Threads: An Instagram App,” was launched by the media giant on July 6th. Within just over a day of its official release, Threads quickly climbed to the number one spot in the Social Networking app rankings.
Meta’s joy was short-lived. In the early morning of July 7th, according to Vietnam time, multiple news outlets on Twitter were spreading the news that Meta could potentially face a lawsuit from Twitter.
Twitter’s lawyers have sent a letter accusing Zuckerberg and Meta of “systematically, intentionally, and unlawfully misappropriating trade secrets and other intellectual property of Twitter.”
In the letter sent, attorney Alex Spiro stated
“Over the past year, Meta has hired dozens of former Twitter employees and utilized trade secrets and intellectual property from Twitter to develop Threads.”
Meta has not yet responded to the aforementioned allegations. On the other hand, Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, has also added fuel to the fire with a tweet.
