Continuing the “Onchain Summer” event to celebrate Base’s journey towards mainnet launch, Coinbase’s layer-2 solution has announced a partnership with Coca-Cola to release a limited edition NFT collection called “Global Masterpiece.”
This collection features reimagined versions of renowned artworks like Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” Edvard Munch’s “The Scream,” and Vincent Van Gogh’s “Bedroom.” These classics are combined with contemporary art by Aket and Vikram Kushwah, all showcased on the distinctive glass bottle design of Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola aims to bridge traditional art, modern artistic expressions, and the new art form of Internet-based NFTs through this collection. The “Masterpiece” NFTs are currently priced between 0.001 and 0.014 ETH per NFT, with minting available until August 16th.
Notably, throughout August, over 50 brands, including Coca-Cola, Friends With Benefits (a decentralized autonomous organization), and NFT platform Zora, will release NFTs on the Base network.
When asked about “Onchain Summer,” Jesse Pollak, Head of Protocol at Coinbase, stated that the event is intended to showcase how NFTs can be leveraged as a technology, not just speculative assets. “We want to provide a reason for people to engage with our public mainnet,” he mentioned.
To foster community engagement around Base, Coinbase is encouraging users to convert ETH from other chains to Base, creating a commemorative NFT for the mainnet launch. According to data from Etherscan, over 125,000 individuals have already generated more than 30 million free NFTs up to now.
With the mainnet launch and various user-attracting programs, Base’s Total Value Locked (TVL) has witnessed impressive growth, ranking fifth on the Ethereum charts. As of August 14th, data shows that users have migrated over 200 million USD worth of assets to Base.
