In a recent blog post, Google has announced an update to its policy regarding advertisements for blockchain-based games related to NFTs.
The new policy will continue to prohibit advertisements for games that allow players to bet or wager NFTs with other players or for rewards, including cryptocurrencies and NFTs.
Conversely, NFT casino games and any other social betting models that allow players to bet or play for rewards in the real world – such as NFTs, cash, or cryptocurrencies – will also remain prohibited.
To run ads promoting content related to NFT-integrated gambling, advertisers will need to have a Google Gambling and Games Policy certification. This additional measure aligns with Google’s commitment to responsible advertising and ensures that users are not exposed to potentially harmful content.
Additionally, Google has outlined a fair pause system in which a warning is issued at least seven days in advance, allowing advertisers to address any issues. Ad accounts will be suspended after the warning period expires.
This update marks a significant step in supporting the growing interest in NFT games. According to Scott Spencer, Google’s Director of Sustainable Advertising, the motivation behind this decision stems from the company’s perception of “sufficient harm or potential harm to consumers,” so they will continue to approach cryptocurrency-related advertising with “extreme caution.”
