Recently, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, announced that two former managers from OpenAI, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, have officially joined Microsoft to lead the high-level AI research team. However, Microsoft will continue to collaborate with OpenAI to execute their product roadmap.
As for Sam Altman, the OpenAI board of directors announced his dismissal on November 18th, and they have temporarily appointed Mira Murati as CEO while they search for a successor to Sam Altman.
Not only Sam Altman but also Greg Brockman, the co-chairman of the OpenAI board of directors, was relieved of his position. However, he will still work with the company under the leadership of Mira Murati. Nevertheless, after learning of Sam Altman’s dismissal, Greg Brockman also submitted his resignation, along with at least three other high-level researchers.
Shortly after stepping down as CEO, Sam Altman shared some heartfelt thoughts on the social media platform X and expressed his gratitude to OpenAI employees. The employees responded positively and with regret at Sam Altman’s departure. This has led to speculation about internal divisions at OpenAI, which may have contributed to Sam Altman’s dismissal.
It is worth noting that all the co-founders of OpenAI (Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Greg Brockman) have left the company after a long period of development. Currently, the community is speculating that Elon Musk may return to lead OpenAI. However, with the firm statement about restructuring the board of directors, it may be challenging for the billionaire to retain the CEO position.
