The launch of Scroll, a new Ethereum layer 2 network, has intensified competition among other zkEVM (zk-rollup compatible Ethereum Virtual Machine) providers, including Polygon and Matter Labs.
Led by co-founder Sandy Peng, Scroll has been developing a ZK rollup network, a layer 2 solution compatible with Ethereum’s EVM. This compatibility allows developers to easily deploy applications built for Ethereum on this new “zkEVM” network.
The launch of Scroll has increased competition among zkEVM providers, which also includes Polygon and Matter Labs. Etherscan, a blockchain explorer tool, has shown interactions between the main Ethereum blockchain and “Scroll: L1 Gateway Router Proxy” in recent days after its contract creation.
Dune Analytics, a blockchain analytics platform, has introduced a dashboard to monitor the new Scroll zkEVM. As of Thursday (10/12), approximately 370 ETH (valued at $565,000) had been connected to the network.
The launch of Scroll comes after two years of research and about seven months after Polygon and Matter Labs released their respective zkEVM solutions. Scroll has not confirmed whether they will introduce their own token or not.
