The city of Lugano, the economic capital of southern Switzerland where Italian is spoken, will be integrating Polygon’s Proof of Stake (PoS) protocol into its cryptocurrency-friendly payment app, MyLugano.
According to an announcement on Polygon Labs’ website dated November 22, the updated version of MyLugano features a multi-chain digital wallet for personal transactions. The press release mentions that “some tokens” have already been integrated into the app, with plans for further additions.
Polygon has been a partner of the Swiss city at least since 2022, serving as the infrastructure partner for the city’s LVGA stablecoin.
The MyLugano app, developed in collaboration with another cryptocurrency company, Tether, caters to around 30,000 users, or nearly half the city’s population, enabling them to make digital payments for local small and medium-sized transactions.
The city government plans to allow residents and companies to pay taxes with cryptocurrencies in the near future. The ultimate goal is to accept cryptocurrencies for all goods and services, equating them with fiat currencies.
