In a post on September 9th on X (formerly Twitter), Dmitry Buterin, the father of Vitalik, announced that his son’s account had been compromised:
“Disregard this post, it’s clear Vitalik has been hacked. He’s working on recovering access.”
The post he referred to had been deleted and was published on Buterin’s account celebrating the upcoming release of “Proto-Danksharding Ethereum.”
The hacker had shared a malicious link to a free commemorative non-fungible token (NFT), luring victims into connecting their wallets before stealing all their funds.
As a result, this incident led Ethereum developer Bok Khoo, known as ‘Bokky Poobah’ on X, to claim that he had suffered losses in his CryptoPunk NFT collection.
At the time of writing, the current floor price for CryptoPunk NFTs is 46.99 Ether, equivalent to approximately $76,837 USD.
ZachXBT had actively informed his 438,200 followers about the hacker’s activities. Recently, ZachXBT shared that the most valuable stolen NFT so far is “CryptoPunk #3983,” valued at 153.62 Ether, approximately $250,543 USD.
A user with the pseudonym “Satoshi 767” on X claimed that Buterin may not have fully implemented security measures for his X account.
